Gurvit Sharma '13 Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Engineering

This scholarship was established by Rahul and Upma Sharma, parents of Gurvit Sharma, '13, an Industrial Engineering alumnus who unexpectedly passed away in an accident on June 28, 2020. The scholarship honors Gurvit for his academic, co-op, and leadership activities, as well as an alumnus making an impact in the field of engineering.

During his time at Kettering, Gurvit was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, the Society of Industrial Engineers and the Kettering COMPASS Crew. He did his co-op at Detroit Diesel and PPG Industries. Gurvit was awarded the Presidential Scholarship and graduated with a Bachelors in Industrial Engineering in 2013. He went onto work as an Industrial Engineer at Ford Motor Company from 2016 to 2020 and then as a Process Engineering Specialist until January of 2020. In this role at Ford Motor Company he led the Pre-engineering on multiple sub-assembly lines through launch/daily production for new 8-speed FWD Transmission-- resulting in historically low warranty issues. Early in 2020 he joined ABB, Inc. in Auburn Hills, MI as a Senior Applications Engineer.

Gurvit loved boating, racing cars and super bikes. He was the proud owner of an Audi RS5 and Ducati 848 EVO Corse SE. This scholarship was established with his earnings and will be available to students in the College of Engineering, and it will be renewed depending upon academic and co-op achievement
