Dr. Brian J. McCartin Endowed Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established by Barbara McCartin in honor of her husband, Dr. Brian J. McCartin. Dr. McCartin taught for 22 years in the Mathematics Department at Kettering University. He was a decorated mathematician who won teaching (2001 and 2006) and outstanding research (2000 and 2010) awards at Kettering and was recognized nationally with the Chauvenet Prize in 2010 (Pulitzer Prize for math), from the mathematical Association of America. He was known in the classroom for distributing math books to students who produced outstanding work. Despite the quantity and quality of his research accomplishments, Dr. McCartin saw himself as a teacher first. “My mother was an elementary school teacher and I always felt a bond there,” he said at the time of his retirement. “I have been a teacher disguised as a researcher.”

Your contribution will benefit a full-time sophomore, junior or senior in good standing, with a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and a minimum of 3.25 GPA in mathematics. This award is based solely on merit, and recipents must have the recommendation of two Professors or two Instructors in the Mathematics Department.
